Masonry Stabilization

As an approved installer with Thor Helical Remedial, we have access to a unique range of stress free masonry reinforcing products/solutions to provide a cost effective, concealed, non destructive solution for many forms of remedial masonry stabilisation situations.

This includes Crack stitching, Lintel reinforcement, Masonry beaming, Expansion joints, and Lateral restraints.

Crack Stitching

Crack_Stitching.jpg_19072010-1455-13 Thor Helical remedial crack stitch bars are heavy duty stainless steel helical bars and are ideal for the masonry repair of wall cracks where shear strength is an issue. The 6mm diameter helical finned bar is bonded into the mortar bed joint using Thor W60 Flexi grout this will reinforce distressed masonry and control cracking by distributing forces back into the structure.

Lintel Reinforcement

Many houses constructed with cavity walls do not have a lintel in the outer leaf and the brickwork it is often supported by the window frame. Thor Helical Masonry reinforcement can be installed to form a lintel before replacement windows can be installed. This method of forming lintels costs significantly less than installing conventional lintels.

Lintel_Reinforcement.jpg_19072010-1515-44Typically two mortar beds, separated by 450-900mm are reinforced, each with a pair of high tensile stainless steel Thor Heliforce bars embedded into the wall with Thor W60 Flexi grout. The bars are encased 500mm beyond each side of the opening.

The reinforced bed joints form tendons that represent the upper and lower flanges of a brick beam or wall lintel. Utilising the surrounding masonry, one tendon carries compression and the other acts in tension. The reinforced brick beam lintel has a typical load carrying capacity of 2.6 tonne (BRE Calculations).

Masonry Beaming

The unique Thor Heliforce Beaming system of structural reinforcement and repair is at the heart of Thor Helical Remedial advance remedial strategies. It provides a rapid versatile cost-effective means of restoring structural integrity to buildings and structures where the masonry has failed and lost its load bearing capabilities. In combination with other Thor ties and restraints it can provide a comprehensive system of structural repair and stabilisation.

How it works

Where masonry has cracked and failed as a result of ground movement, weathering of increased loads and stresses, the Thor Heliforce Beaming system provides stress free bed joint reinforcement which ties the masonry together whilst creating deep masonry beams which distribute the structural loads. Other ties and fixings provide appropriate lateral and vertical restraint to complete the system, which is applicable to all types of masonry structure.

Lateral Restraints

Lateral_RestraintsLateral restraints are wall ties used for restraining bulging masonry. Lateral restraints are usually installed from outside the property with a minimum of disturbance – in most cases just lift a few floorboards to determine the position of the joists and to ensure hidden wires or pipes are avoided during restraint tie installation.

Each restraint tie has a drill like leading end for cutting into softwood. Using a drill, simply wind the lateral restraint ties into the timbers and resin fix the masonry end.
